Yoga & Fitness Resume

Marketing and communications strategist by day, yogini by night! My yogic life actually interweaves quite well throughout the work I do in higher education each day: using creative juices as I write/design/produce, finding peaceful solutions to challenges, taking a kind approach to my work with colleagues, building an inclusive community, and taking lots of deep breaths as I go (with a few yoga poses to counteract all the computer work).

Teaching yoga is my passion. A dedicated student of life, I have practiced and studied Ashtanga, Iyengar, Restorative, and Vinyasa yoga since 1995. From an early age, I played many team sports, soccer was my favorite. In my late 20’s I started teaching group fitness classes: spin/cycling, boot camp, step, and water aerobics. I began practicing yoga to complement my other workouts.

Yoga soon became my focus providing a gentler approach to my physical life, moving away from the “no pain, no gain” mindset to a kinder, holistic way to strengthen and balance my body and healing injuries. I loved that it provided the additional benefit of great improvement in my mental and spiritual well-being. I studied and apprenticed with Jeff Martens, my yoga teacher at Arizona State University (ASU) prior to national standards being fully developed and later completed my 200 and 300-hour yoga teacher training at Inner Vision Yoga where Jeff Martens is a co-owner. I hold certifications from the YMCA as an Exercise Instructor with a focus on Cycling and Pilates plus a bachelor’s equivalency in Exercise Science and Physical Education from ASU. I went on to help develop the yoga program at the University of Minnesota, taught at the ASU Recreation Center, served as adjunct faculty in the Exercise Science and Physical Education department at Mesa Community College, and have taught at many YMCAs, community centers, and studios through the years.

I humbly offer my knowledge, experience and a sprinkling of humor to help people reach their individual goals and to empower themselves through the beautiful art and science of yoga. I have been a long-time advocate that yoga is for every body – regardless of age, body type, or ability – and my teaching style is ever mindful of safety first.
